Bare Minerals Makeup Kits

Bare Minerals Makeup Kits are a fun and economical way to either try Bare Minerals or add to your collection. The kits are always a great value, when compared to buying the items individually. In addition to an assortment of starter kits, there are many different kits offered throughout the year, including QVC Today’s Specials and special and limited edition kits at other retailers. There are also speciality kits with eyeshadows or blush.

Mineral Hygienics Mineral Make Up

March 2, 2009 by Suzanne

Mineral Make Up Mineral Hygienics Mineral Make Up offers a very good selection of bismuth free mineral cosmetics.

I have been using their starter kit for about a month now and I am very impressed. First of all, it is bismuth free and only contains four ingredients. So anyone looking for more natural cosmetics should definitely take a look at these. The products seem to have a much finer texture that other mineral powders, which gives the foundation a smooth, matte finish. I wear medium in everything and their medium is a perfect match. It provides medium to fuller (not complete) coverage. However, you can achieve full coverage by using these tricks – Concealing with Mineral Makeup.

What impressed me the most is that this makeup stays on until you take it off. I was blown away that at the end of the day (the very end – at bedtime) I still have what looks like all of my makeup in place and it stays there until I take it off. I haven’t slept in it, but I think I might just to see exactly how long it does stay put. I am sure I am not the only one who has glanced in a mirror during the day and thought “what happened to my makeup?”! I do not recall any other foundation that has ever had the same staying power as this one. This is not only important because if we put on makeup we actually want to wear it all day, but also that it continues to provide sun protection all day long. Which got me thinking, if we are using mineral make up as our sun protection and it wears off by lunch time, then we are no longer protected. Another plus is that they offer a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Sheer Cover Review – sheer says it all – Sheer cover is a second rate Bare Essentuals. It provides a nice finish, but you need a lot more of it. Its doesn’t last all day ….

Sheer Cover Review I tried Bare Minerals and found that I could not get much natural coverage and felt it was itchy and powdery. I decided to try Sheer Cover and it is fabulous!…
The Bottom Line: There really is not a clear winner – one is not superior to the other.  Both brands have legions of loyal users who wouldn’t switch for anything.  Both brands have users that originally used the other brand.  It is strictly a personal preference.  Both are very high quality mineral makeups from reputable companies.  If you are using one but aren’t totally thrilled, you may want to try the other.  Don’t forget to share your reviews!

Two New Bare Minerals Foundation Colors

November 28, 2008 by Suzanne

Comments Off

Bare Minerals Foundation is now sold in 15 different colors.  Two new colors, Medium Dark and Golden Dark, have recently been introduced.  Also the color formerly know as deep is now called Golden Deep.

Medium Dark is for dark skin with neutral undertones

Golden Dark is for dark skin with golden undertones.

Golden Deep is for dark to deep skin with golden undertones.

When Bare Minerals first started there were 6 or 7 colors.  They were called by their numbers – 1.0 was the lightest, 7.0 was the darkest.  3.0 was Medium.  When they started adding colors, they added decimals – ie 2.3 (now known as Medium Beige was a combo of 2.0 & 3.0).  Anyway, they finally gave up the number system and went with names only.  Over the years Bare Minerals has added new shades, mostly in the darker colors.

I have updated the Bare Minerals Foundation page to include pictures and descriptions of all of the current colors.

Bare Escentuals New Rare Minerals Moisturizer

Bare Escentuals Rare Minerals MoisturizerMany of us were very sorry to see Bare Escentuals get out of the bath & Body business, but they are making up for it with their expanding skin care line.  Now there is a new Rare Minerals Moisturizer, available now to pre-order with a ship date of 12/13/2008.  Right now it is a QVC exclusive, but will be available at their other retail outlets later next year.

The official name is Bare Escentuals RareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer. Here is what Bare Escentuals has to say about it: A breakthrough electrolyte delivery system helps this RareMinerals complex to deeply nourish and hydrate like never before. The blend uses the finest botanicals, antioxidants, and natural emollients to give you incredibly luminous skin.” So far there is no ingredient list available, but the price is decent – $29.18 for 1.7 ounces.

While I was looking around the Bare Minerals skin care, I also found these two Bare Minerals Skin Care kits – it is nice to see them to start offering kits, which makes them more affordable.

Bare Escentuals Hydrating Mineral Veil

November 22, 2008 by Suzanne

Hydrating Mineral VeilThere is a new addition to the Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil family – Bare Escentuals Hydrating Mineral Veil has recently been introduced.   Bare Escentuals Hydrating Mineral Veil contains a unique, water-based, 100% pure bareMinerals formula that infuses thirsty skin with a cooling softness and subtly brightens for the ultimate, translucent finishing touch. Completely sheer, it lightly hydrates with natural ingredients while gently absorbing oil and minimizing the appearance of fine lines and pores. Buff it over makeup or bare skin with the antibacterial-treated Hydrate & Brighten Brush for a fresh, airbrushed complexion that lasts all day long.

What is it: An innovative mineral veil formula that contains creamy, natural rice lipids that naturally adhere to the skin, providing the ultimate translucent finishing touch to your makeup with a dewy peach iridescent shimmer.

Who is it for: For all skin types and complexions.

Why is it different: A combination of shea butter, glycerin, ceramacydes, and hyaluronic acid provides your skin with long-lasting moisturization while natural mineral colorants provide rich, lasting pigment. Upon application, it gives a cool sensation, while infusing skin with softness and light. Paraben free.

The reviews I have read so far have mostly been very positive.  This one would be good to try if you find your mineral makeup drying to your skin, of if it gets dried out looking during the day.  It could be used with any brand of mineral makeup (or any other type of makeup for that matter – many people use Mineral Veil with traditional foundations.)

Hydrating Mineral Veil Ingredients:
Water (Aqua); Corn Starch Modified; Zea Mays (Corn) Starch; Oryza Sativa (Rice) Lipids; Silica Silylate; Populus Tremuloides Bark Extract; Lonicera Caprifolium (Honysuckle) Flower Extract; Lonicera Japonica (Honysuckle) Flower Extract. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891); Mica (CI 77019); Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163); Iron Oxides (CI 77491); Iron Oxides (CI 77492).

Mineral Makeup and Dry Skin

Serious Skin Care Color For Dry Skin Duo
I know many ladies with dry skin have been very frustrated in their mineral makeup adventures. For some users with dry skin their minerals dry out and they feel they are just caked on – even after using lots of moisturizer before applying. It looks like help has arrived in the form of Serious SKin Care’s Olive Oil primer for dry skin. I noticed this over on HSN and found both the primer and primer and Prominerals have received so many positive reviews they are “customer picks”.

Serious Skin Care says that the “Olive Oil Hydrating Skin Primer was formulated specially for people with dry skin, this lotion contains olive oil leaf extract and powerful skin hydrators.  It helps prep the skin for makeup and helps keep it dewy and hydrated.”  So far the reviews are all glowing – many by women with dry skin who siad they were never able to wear mineral makeup before.

As an added bonus – all customer picks are $5 off with coupon number C70580 through August 18th!

If you try it, please leave a review in the comments or at Mineral Makeup Reviews – Thanks!

Mineral Makeup vs. Mineral Based Makeup

bareMinerals 2-piece Powder Foundation & Brush w/SPF 15

Katrina, an Asthetician from Washington made an interesting point in her recent review – Mary Kay Mineral Foundation is Glorified Loose Powder – that I wanted to highlight and discuss.

Katrina wrote “What makes a mineral makeup, MINERAL MAKEUP?   The two top ingredients should be Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide!! Where are they in their list of ingredients!!! They are the basis of a great mineral foundation. They are both awesome UVA & UVB natural filters. Zinc oxide is also a wound healer that is why it is fantastic in treating acne.

My own opinion regarding the new (what I have been calling second generation) Mineral Makeups from Bargain Mineral Makeup: “However, drugstore and discount minerals aren’t “pure” mineral makeups – which is one of the reasons many women have switched to minerals.  If you are OK with that, there is a chance that you can find a cheap mineral makeup than you can live with.” and What is Mineral Makeup?: “What is mineral makeup?  Mineral makeup is made from pure crushed minerals. The “true” mineral makeups only have 4 or 5 ingredients. (The 2nd generation minerals from manufacturers such as Mary Kay, Neutrogena and Loreal have a lot more ingredients, which lead some to declare that it isn’t “true mineral makeup”, but rather mineral based makeup.)”

Everyone can make their own decision regarding which brand is best for them.  But please be aware that the foundations that are not “pure” minerals will not provide you with the Benefits of Mineral Makeup and it may not be the Best Makeup for Acne.

Allergy to Mineral Makeup?

July 17, 2008 by Suzanne

Is it possible to be allergic to Mineral Makeup?  Some people complain of allergic type skin reactions after using mineral makeup.  I believe that in most cases the problem is caused by one of two things.

First, the Bismuth Oxychloridein some Mineral Foundations can be problematic for some.  You can read about it here – Bismuth in Mineral Makeup and check out the Bismuth Free Mineral Makeups.  Bismuth can cause itching and irritation.

If you are having a full blown allergic type reaction – redness, swelling, even hives – your makeup brush may be the culprit.  Most makeup brushes are made of animal hair and many people are allergic and/or sensitive to it.  If you think the brush may be your problem, apply a small  amount of the mineral makeup to the inside of your wrist with your finger.  If you have no problems – try putting some on your face (with your finger).  If you don’t react, then you know the problem is the makeup brush you are using.  You will need to use Synthetic brushes and avoid all animal hair brushes.  Look for brushes with Nylon and Taklon fibers.  Here is a nice Pink Synthetic Oval Brush that can be used for foundation, blush or any face coloring minerals. This Synthetic Powder Face Brush is also good for foundation.  Synthetic brushes are also ideal for Vegans  – those who avoid all animal products.
