Pur Minerals Makeup Introduces New 4-in-1 Foundation Formula

Pur Minerals has recently announced a new forumation for their wildy popular 4-in-1 pressed mineral foundation. The new formula contains skin care additives – including a nonirritating retinol and ceramides. Purminerals says these ingredients were selected “to smooth away the look of lines, combat visible discoloration and encourage a brighter, even-toned complexion.”

In their press release, they site an eight week clinical study where the subjects reported an 89% increase in brilliance in four weeks and a 95% experienced a softer, smoother texture. 75% reported less skin irritation than they had before within six weeks and 88% reported less facial shine. At the conclusion of the study, 95% of the users felt their skin had a firmer feel and finish with less visible pores and 89% saw overall improvement in their skin tone.

In addition to an updated formula, the updated 4-in-1 also received an updated compact. The new one is Lucite with a silver embossed finish. It is available in 10 shades with a price tag of $27 – that is only a $1 increase over the original 4-in-1 (which is available).

I don’t know about you, but I am thrilled about this new trend of adding skin care ingredients to makeup. After years of having makeup cause me to break out (before I discovered mineral makeup), it is nice to know that the new formulas may actually help my skin. At least they are trying!

The new formula does not have an SPF number, the original has an SPF 15. With the retinol, you need sun protection, but mineral makeup has a natural, built in SPF provided by the Titanium Dioxide. In order to state an SPF claim, it has to be tested by an FDA approved lab and I assume that Pur Minerals is undergoing the testing and will add the SPF at a later date, once it has been approved.

Here are the ingredients for the new formula:
Mica, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Boron Nitride, Bismuth Oxychloride, Zinc Stearate, Magnesium Silicate, Sodium Starch Octenylsuccinate, Mannitol, Sodium Gluconate, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Waltheria Indica Leaf Extract, Dextrin, Ferulic Acid, L-Lactic Acid, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Silica, Thioctic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Retinol, L-Ascorbic Acid, Ceramide 6 II, Magnolia Officinalis Bark Extract, Vitis Vinifera/Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Tocopherol, Lecithin, Maltodextrin, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Skin, Glycerin, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, L-Glutathione, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hydrated Silica, Tocopheryl Acetate, Aqua, Glucosamine HCI, Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract, Bambusa Vulgaris Leaf/Stem Extract, Magnesium Carbonate, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499). New Bare Escentuals Oil Control Foundation Primer

For those of us with oiler and/or acne prone skin, Bare Escentuals has a new Oil Control Primer. The official name is Bare Escentuals Prime Time Oil Control and it is an oil-free, water based primer.

Here is the scoop from Bare Escentuals: “developed for oily, sensitive, or problem-prone skin to instantly smooth the complexion prior to bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation. The oil, fragrance, and silicone–free formula is clinically proven to control shine throughout the day, as well as to regulate oil and refine pores with minerals and natural plant extracts. The lightweight primer glides on seamlessly—leaving the skin matte, refreshed, and ready for foundation.”

Ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Modified Corn Starch, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Zinc PCA, Sodium Levulinate, Sodium Anisate, Silica, Calcium Silicate, Sclerotium Gum, Citric Acid.

It is currently a Sephora exclusive, where it is getting mixed, but mostly positive reviews. I am looking forward to trying it out, but my initial feeling is that anyone who has worn and can wear a primer with silicone will be disappointed in this one. This formula is for those of us who cannot use the silicone based primers because of breakouts or very oily skin. If you have normal to dry skin or can use the other primers with silicone, stick with them. Otherwise you may want to try this out – it is probably better than nothing if you want ot use a primer.

Many of us were very sorry to see Bare Escentuals get out of the bath & Body business, but they are making up for it with their expanding skin care line. Now there is a new Rare Minerals Moisturizer, available now to pre-order with a ship date of 12/13/2008. Right now it is a QVC exclusive, but will be available at their other retail outlets later next year.

The official name is Bare Escentuals RareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer. Here is what Bare Escentuals has to say about it: A breakthrough electrolyte delivery system helps this RareMinerals complex to deeply nourish and hydrate like never before. The reviews I have read so far have mostly been very positive. This one would be good to try if you find your mineral makeup drying to your skin, of if it gets dried out looking during the day. It could be used with any brand of mineral makeup (or any other type of makeup for that matter – many people use Mineral Veil with traditional foundations.)

Serious Skin Care ProMinerals ProNano Brightening Powder

Has Serious Skin Care outdone Bare Escentuals by making a “new and improved” Mineral Veil? Or is ir an alternative to Rare Minerals? Or is it a makeup primer? Or all of the above?

ProNano Brightening Powder debuted a few months ago. Since then it has received RAVE reviews by users – it is a customer pick on HSN. The instructions say to apply it before makeup – it is intended as a primer to minimize pores, reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, brighten the skin and keep it hydrated while absorbing oil. This is very appealing to me because regular makeup primers cause me to breakout, but because this one is a mineral based powder, I should be OK.

Because it contains cornstarch (a main ingredient in Bare Mineral’s Mineral Veil), people are also using it over their foundation as a setting powder and they seem to be happy with those results as well.

It also contains Emblica Fruit Extract: Natural (a fruit extract that has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, protects skin cells for anti-aging benefits, natural skin brightener) as a main ingredient – this is also a main ingredient in Rare Minerals and Strivectin.

I’m not sure I would have paid much attention to this product if it weren’t for all of the rave reviews (they are here if you want to read them - Serious Skin Care ProMinerals ProNano Brightening Powder) – but I am very intrigued and want to give it a try! I am out of Rare Minerals – which I love, but have a tough time coughing up $60 for it!, so I will try this instead. I am a big fan of Serious Skin Care ProMineral Foundation and have been wanting to get a kit for awhile – I found and ordered the kit pictured below, the powder is available as a separate item, I love the value of the Serious Skin Care kits! I will try it for a while and post a review.

When I wrote about Serious Skin Care Introduces Mineral Based Skin Care a while back, I felt like the Capo Minerale trio would eventually be available in a kit at a much better value. There is now a kit that offers all three at an approximate 40% price reduction (plus it on flex pay). The kit is a much better value, I am going to give it a try now – as my skin seems to respond so well to anything mineral based.
